Rockville Seeks Input on 'Green' Building Code
Public Meetings Set for May 19 and 21

Rockville, Md., April 21, 2009 - The City of Rockville will revise Chapter 5 of the City Code, "Buildings and Building Regulations,"  after a series of public meetings planned for this spring and summer. A copy of the draft revised code will be available at City Hall and on the City's Web site at www.rockvillemd.gov/environment/built on Friday, May 1.

The City Code is being updated to reflect recent changes in building codes and standards. The draft revised code enhances certain environmental requirements such as energy and water efficiency and includes a new section that provides specific requirements for green standards.

The public is invited to comment on the draft revised code at one of two public meetings. The meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, May 21, 1-3 p.m. at City Hall, 111 Maryland Avenue. Comments may also be submitted via e-mail at greenbuilding@rockvillemd.gov or via telephone to Nate Wall, environmental specialist, at 240-314-8872.

Following the public meetings, the draft building codes will be revised and officially introduced by the Mayor and Council in June. A formal public comment period will follow, leading to eventual adoption of the new code in the Fall.
