Meeting Set to Unveil Designs for New Rockville City Police Station
ROCKVILLE, Md., June 2, 2009-A meeting to present designs for the new Rockville City Police Station that will be located at the Old Rockville Post Office is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, June 4, in council chambers at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave.
Conceptual plans that maintain the historical aspects of the building will be discussed. Police administration will be located in the building and police operations will be located in an annex behind it.
Years of work to make the post office a City facility came to a close last September when the Mayor and Council authorized its transfer from the federal government to Rockville.
Operations at the post office, located at the corner of N. Washington Street and E. Montgomery Avenue, ceased in October 2006. Additional funding of just more than $6 million was approved in Fiscal Year 2010 for design and construction to make the post office a police station.
