Rockville Neighborhoods Gather for National Night Out
Annual Community Crime Prevention Events will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 4
ROCKVILLE, Md., July 28, 2009-Neighborhoods throughout the City of Rockville will participate in the annual nationwide crime prevention initiative, National Night Out Against Crime. The neighborhood events will take place from 6-10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, in more than three dozen communities throughout Rockville.
Each community will host its own block party that includes activities such as cookouts, moon bounces, giveaways, carnival games, prizes and a chance to spend time with neighbors. McGruff the Crime Dog will visit several of the scheduled block parties, where he will spread his anti-crime and anti-drug message.
The Rockville Mayor and Council, Rockville City Police Department officers and members of the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office will visit many of the block parties. National Night Out is a unique crime and drug prevention event that is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. This is the 26th year the event has been held. It's aimed at raising awareness about crime and drug prevention, generating support for anti-crime programs, strengthening community spirit and community policing partnerships, and sending a message to criminals that neighborhoods are fighting back against crime.
