Rockville Police Charge Man in Burglary, Assault and Attempted Rape
ROCKVILLE, Md., May 21, 2010 -The Rockville City Police Department charged a Gaithersburg man for his role in the burglary, assault and suspected attempted rape involving a Rockville couple.
Rockville City and Montgomery County Police responded at about 10 p.m. Thursday, May 20, to Elmcroft Court for the report of an attempted rape in the King Farm community. The victim told police that she and her fiancée were moving into an apartment when a man entered the apartment, pushed the woman into a bedroom closet and forced her to the ground.
The woman's fiancé heard her scream and ran to the bedroom from where he heard her scream, according to police. The fiancé and the suspect fought, and the suspect fled the apartment.
The victims gave police a description of the man and police placed a lookout on the suspect. Montgomery County Police 6th District Special Assignment Team located the suspect at a shopping center on Snouffer School Road.
Craig Donnell Johnson, age 40 (02/12/70), was charged with one count each of attempted second-degree rape, first-degree and third-degree burglary, and two counts of second-degree assault.
Johnson is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center awaiting a bond review hearing.
