Rockville's 22nd Annual Hometown Holidays Kicks Off Summer in the City
Enter Daily Giveaway for Prizes at Memorial Day Weekend Event
 
ROCKVILLE, Md., May 25, 2010 -The 22nd annual Hometown Holidays celebration takes place Memorial Day weekend and features more than 40 bands and entertainers, Taste of Rockville, children's activities and an Art and Craft Festival.
 
Grammy-award winning Soul Asylum will headline the main stage on Sunday. New Orleans bands Tab Benoit, Papa Grows Funk and The Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band will headline the main stage on Saturday.  The Hometown Holidays festival takes place from 1-10 p.m. Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30.
 
Get ready to celebrate with Hometown Holidays Giveaway Week. Enter every day this week, Tuesday through Friday, for a chance to win great prizes for Hometown Holidays. Names will be randomly drawn each day at 4 p.m.
 
To enter the daily giveaway, simply sign up for Rockville's weekly e-letter, This Week in Rockville. The e-letter is delivered to your e-mail every Thursday at 3 p.m. and let's you know what's happening in the city.
 
If you choose not to sign up for the e-letter, but still want to enter for the daily giveaway, send an e-mail with your name to pio@rockvillemd.gov. You can also call 240-314-8116 or 240-314-8117. You must give your name and phone number.
 
Entries are limited to one per person per day. Odds of winning are determined by the number of entrants. City employees and members of their immediate families are prohibited from participating.
 
Winners will be notified by e-mail or phone, and must claim their prize at the City Booth in Town Square Plaza on Maryland Avenue at Hometown Holidays. Names are chosen at random. Prizes for each day will be announced on the home page at the start of the day.
 
Each year more than 60,000 people descend on Rockville's downtown to celebrate summer with more bands and entertainers performing on 10 stages, children's activities, a green festival and Taste of Rockville.
 
This year's festival will also include an Art and Craft Festival, featuring more than 50 artisans showcasing their one-of-a-kind handcrafted artwork, a free style dance stage for anyone to show off dance moves, a Saturday night teen dance on The Rooftop, a living history stage to celebrate the City's 150th anniversary and a sampling of art demonstrations.
 
In addition to Saturday and Sunday's activities, the festival also features a Memorial Day celebration on Monday, May 31, including a performance by the Rockville Concert Band and Chorus, the 66th annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony that remembers and honors those who died serving their country.
 
Concert performances start at 9 a.m., followed by the ceremony at 9:30 a.m. and the parade at 10:30 a.m.
 
United States Army Nurse Corps Col. Richard Ricciardi, a Board Certified Pediatric and Adult Nurse Practitioner, will serve as the parade grand marshal and Adam Caskey, host of ABC 7's "Neighborhood Weather" segments weekdays on Good Morning Washington, will serve as emcee.
