Rockville Concert Band Showcases Local Music Students in Patio Performance
ROCKVILLE, Md., June 18, 2010 - The Rockville Concert Band will feature local high school music students and popular concert band classics in a "Patio Performance" Tuesday, June 22, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held on the patio of the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre at Rockville Civic Center Park, 603 Edmonston Drive.
The show will feature well-known selections by composers like Holst, Vaugh-Williams, Sousa, Leroy Anderson, K. L. King, Morton Gould, Sammy Nestico and Warren Barker, classical favorites, and Broadway tunes.
Four high school students were selected to perform with the band and be mentored by members during rehearsals. Music directors at Rockville, Magruder, Wootton, and Richard Montgomery High Schools recommended students for the honor. The selected students expect to further their music education after they graduate from high school.
The concert band established the student musician program to recognize musical talent in schools, and show students and youth in the community that playing a musical instrument can bring joy and remain a lifelong experience, regardless of what they pursue professionally.
The City of Rockville, high school band directors, Montgomery County Public Schools Instrumental Department, Audiology and Hearing Aid Services, and King Buick GMC in Rockville support the program.
Lawn seating is available for the performance; audience members are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket for comfortable seating.
In case of threatening or inclement weather or excessive heat, the concert will be moved indoors to the Social Hall.
