Rockville Lifts Mandatory Water Restrictions

ROCKVILLE, Md., July 11, 2010 -The City of Rockville has lifted the mandatory water restrictions that have been in place since Wednesday night, after repairing a second leak on the water main and bringing the water treatment plant back on line. The second leak occurred after a break in the water main had been repaired and water sample testing had been completed on Saturday.

"City crews worked around the clock to fix this second leak and restore service as quickly as possible," said Craig Simoneau, Department of Public Works director. "We can't thank residents enough for their conservation efforts and patience during these past few days."

The City asked residents to conserve water after a 24-inch water main pipe burst around 3:30 p.m. July 7. The water main was repaired by City crews with help from its contractors Mid-Atlantic Utilities and Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC). The pipe serves as the only water main connecting the City's water treatment plant and the distribution system. Rockville received supplemental water from WSSC. No Rockville water customers lost water service during the break or repair work.

The City's three water tanks are also filled to normal operating levels. The City serves 13,445 homes in Rockville.
