Power Outages Necessitate Water Restrictions, Summer Camp Cancellations
WSSC Water Restrictions Impact All Rockville Residents
ROCKVILLE, MD, July 26, 2010 -- A powerful line of storms Sunday afternoon that struck Montgomery County has caused hundreds of thousands of power outages and numerous felled trees.
As a result of a power outage at the Potomac Water Filtration Plant on River Road, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) has issued mandatory water restrictions. Those water restrictions affect all City of Rockville residents regardless of whether residents are WSSC water customers or Rockville water customers.
The City of Rockville has canceled all summer camps and summer playgrounds, including Croydon Creek Nature Center camps, for Monday, July 26. A decision about Tuesday camps and playgrounds will be made Monday.
For questions about camps, call 240-314-8620 during normal business hours Monday. For recorded information and updates, call 240-314-5023.
At this time, it is unknown how long it will take to restore power to the hundreds of thousands of customers who are without it.
Residents are asked to restrict their water use. Water reduction steps include:
Residents should treat intersections without traffic signals as four-way stops. Residents requiring police assistance that is not an emergency should call 240-314-8900. Residents with an emergency should call 911.
City Hall will open for business as usual Monday morning. For fallen trees blocking the road, call 240-314-8700 during normal business hours.
Residents who need to report a power outage can call Pepco at 1-877-PEPCO-62 (1-877-737-2662). To report downed wires or a life-threatening emergency, call 202-872-3432.
