Rockville to Hold Public Hearings on Master Plan Elements in September
Municipal Growth and Water Resources Will be Discussed
Rockville, Md., August 13, 2010 - Public hearings on the Municipal Growth and Water Resources Elements of the City's Comprehensive Master Plan will be held before the Mayor and Council on Monday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave.
Drafts of the documents for both elements can be viewed at www.rockvillemd.gov/masterplan/elements/index.html. The City invites comments, which can be submitted:
The Municipal Growth Element discusses how and where population and employment growth is likely to occur and assesses the impacts of projected growth on public services and infrastructure such as police, fire and emergency medical services, schools, libraries and parks.
The Water Resources Element identifies water resources for drinking and other purposes that are necessary to meet the needs that arise from projected growth. Receiving waters and wastewater treatment areas are identified. This element is also concerned with water resource protection, ground water resources, water quality standards and Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs).
The Municipal Growth and Water Resources Elements are new requirements of the state. Every municipality in Maryland that has planning authority is required to adopt these technical elements into its master plan. More information on state requirements for local master plans can be found on Maryland Department of Planning website at www.mdp.state.md.us/OurWork/CompPlans/Requirements.shtml.
The Planning Commission approved the revised documents with separate resolutions for each element at its July 28 meeting. The commission held public hearings and three work sessions in June and July.
