Rockville to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
Rockville, Md., September 7, 2010 - The City of Rockville will host a free community celebration in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month Saturday, Sept. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Rockville Town Square.
The celebration will include music and dance performances by Café Y Caribe and The Calpro Group; informational booths about services available for Latino families from the City of Rockville, Priority Partners, Kaseman Clinic, Kaiser Permanente, Casa de Maryland, Community Ministries of Rockville, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Montgomery County, Montgomery County Federation of Families, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Montgomery County, and Revista Buena Gente; and activities for children.
The event is co-sponsored by Capital One Bank and the Rockville Latino Alliance.
In September 1968, Congress authorized President Lyndon B. Johnson to proclaim National Hispanic Heritage Week, which was observed during the week that included Sept. 15 and 16. Congress expanded the observance in 1988 to a month-long celebration (Sept. 15-Oct. 15), effective the following year.
