Rockville Police Make Arrests in Stabbings
ROCKVILLE, Md., January 16, 2011 - Rockville City Police have arrested four men, all of Silver Spring, in connection with the stabbings of individuals that took place early Sunday morning at the Rockville Sportsplex.
Police arrested the four men Sunday afternoon, following investigation into the incident. The individuals were all charged with two counts each of attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault.
The four individuals charged are as follows:
All are being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center. Bond review hearings are expected to take place Tuesday, Jan. 18.
Rockville City and Montgomery County police officers responded at 12:50 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, to a call for a disturbance at the Rockville Sportsplex, located at 60 Southlawn Court. While on route to the call, it was updated to alert officers that there were multiple stabbings.
A Montgomery County Police officer stopped a vehicle attempting to leave the complex parking lot in front of the main entrance. The five occupants of the vehicle, as well as four others who were nearby, were detained. Police determined several men had sustained stab wounds.
Police officers administered first aid to the victims until Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel arrived. The men were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. Two of the victims are currently in stable condition and remain hospitalized. Others have been treated and released.
Throughout the course of the investigation today, police determined that four individuals walking out of the Sportsplex were spotted by another group of men entering the complex. The group entering believed one of the men leaving is someone with whom they had a conflict with in the past.
The group entering shouted insults at the exiting group, including talk about being gang members.
The arriving group then attacked the victim that it recognized, using knives and a blunt weapon. The victim's friends attempted to help him and a fight ensued between the two groups. Two victims received stab wounds to the abdomen and were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Police are continuing to investigate. If anyone has any information, please call Rockville City Police investigators at 240-314-8938.
