Rockville's Business Appreciation Week Set for March 7-11
Mayor and Council to Visit City Businesses

ROCKVILLE, Md., March 4, 2011 -The Rockville Mayor and Council, in coordination with the Rockville Economic Development Inc. (REDI), gave a proclamation Feb. 28, declaring the week of March 7-11 as Rockville Business Appreciation Week.

Each year, the City of Rockville and REDI celebrate the business community during a special Business Appreciation Week in March to highlight the importance of the business community to Rockville's health and prosperity. REDI staff and board members, Rockville Mayor and Council members, City staff and Chamber of Commerce leaders will spend that week visiting approximately 50 diverse Rockville companies to thank them for choosing Rockville as their place of business.

More than 4,500 businesses, ranging from small family-owned establishments to major corporations, are located in Rockville. They employ more than 49,000 people.

The greater Rockville business area includes nearly 25 million square feet of commercial office space, which is more than one-third of the total office space in Montgomery County.

The Rockville business sector contributes $14.8 million, about 38 percent, of the property taxes collected in Rockville.

The Mayor and Council will visit various businesses during Business Appreciation Week. A schedule is outlined below:
