George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic to Headline Rockville's 23rd Annual Hometown Holidays
Memorial Day Weekend Event Features More Than 40 Bands and Entertainers

ROCKVILLE, Md., March 29, 2011 -The 23rd annual Hometown Holidays celebration takes place Memorial Day weekend and will feature the man known to many as the Godfather of Funk, George Clinton.

George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic, who have been entertaining audiences for decades with their blend of funk and rock, is known for such hits as "Give up the Funk," "Flashlight," "Atomic Dog" and "Not Just Knee Deep."

The Hometown Holidays festival takes place from 1-10 p.m. Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29. Each year more than 60,000 people descend on Rockville's downtown to celebrate summer with more than 40 bands and entertainers performing on eight stages, children's activities, a teen party on The Rooftop, Taste of Rockville and an Art and Craft Festival.

In addition to Sunday's headline performance, the Kelly Bell Band will perform blues. Other performances Sunday include Superland (funk), Blaggards (stout Irish rock), and Wes Tucker and the Skillets (folk rock/funk).

Bob Schneider, an independent artist who has released five albums, hundreds of digital singles and fronted three bands simultaneously, recently released  "Lovely Creatures," will headline Saturday night.

Lloyd Dobler Effect, who performs modern rock, will open for Schneider. Some other performers on Saturday include The Nighthawks (blues), Dave Chappell (roots rock), Supertonics/Chaos/A cabellas (a capella) and Icewagon Flu (celtic/pop/rock).

In addition to Saturday and Sunday's activities, the festival also features a Memorial Day celebration, including a performance by the Rockville Concert Band and Chorus, the 67th annual Memorial Day ceremony and parade on Monday, May 30, that remembers and honors those who died serving their country.

Concert performances start at 9 a.m., followed by the ceremony at 9:30 a.m. and the parade at 10:30 a.m.
