Rockville Celebrates 25 Years of Sculpture on the Grounds
Community Invited to Walking Tour June 5
Rockville, Md., May 26, 2011 – Celebrating its silver anniversary, Rockville's annual Sculpture on the Grounds exhibit returns to the Civic Center Park in June. The free show features six large-scale sculptures surrounded by the park's natural beauty.
The exhibit will open with a community reception and walking tour June 5, between 1 and 2:30 p.m. Residents and visitors are encouraged to enjoy the exhibit until its closing, Sunday, Oct. 16.
"This annual show is really special and unique to Rockville," said Burt Hall, Recreation and Parks Department director. "Since it first began in the 80's the exhibit has brought the community together and showcased our support of the arts."
The exhibit will include the following six artworks.
Rockville Civic Center Park, which includes Glenview Mansion, the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre and Social Hall, the Cottage, the Croydon Creek Nature Center and more than 150 acres of grounds, is the hub of Rockville's recreational, cultural and social activities.
The Sculpture on the Grounds exhibit is part of the City of Rockville's Art in Public Places program, which provides funding for public art as a cultural enrichment for the community.
