Rockville Welcomes Consumer Product Safety Commission Testing Center
Rockville Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio Joins U.S. Sen. Richard Durbin and U.S. Rep. Christopher Van Hollen
to Celebrate Grand Opening June 13

ROCKVILLE, MD, June 10, 2011 – The City of Rockville will welcome the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s National Product Testing & Evaluation Center Monday, June 13. A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. Monday at the new center at 5 Research Place.

Rockville Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio will join U.S. Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Illinois) and U.S. Rep. Christopher Van Hollen (D-Dist. 8) of Kensington to speak at the opening. Following a ribbon cutting ceremony, tours of the new campus will take place.

The new modern lab is a 63,000-square-foot building that features 32,000 square feet of laboratory testing space that will be home to 75 engineers, scientists and support staff. The 9.5-acre campus will include the following labs: Toy Test, Children’s Products, Pool and Spa Products, Impact (bike helmet), General Product Test, Outdoor Power Sports, Electrical Products Test, Chemistry, Combustion Products Test and Flammability/Fire Test.
