Rockville Releases 2011 Historic Buildings Catalog
Rockville, Md., June 13, 2011 –The City of Rockville announces publication of the 2011 "Historic Buildings Catalog." The catalog is an inventory of 478 homes, places and buildings built between 1790 and 1990.
Rockville residents may request to have a free copy of the catalog mailed to them. Property owners with homes featured in the catalog may also request a complimentary copy of the book. To request a copy of the book, send an email with your name and address to history@rockvillemd.gov or call 240-314-8230.
The catalog includes maps, pictures and addresses of architecturally and historically significant properties built before 1945, and 20 properties built after 1945 that illustrate specific building styles. Properties that have received historical designation, and those that may be eligible for historic designation in the future, are included.
The book is organized by architectural styles, ranging from Colonial to Victorian to Brutalist. Each style is described and illustrated by photographs of local buildings that conform to the style.
The "Historic Buildings Catalog" was produced with a Preserve America grant from the National Park Service. With Preserve America funds, communities and agencies support preservation efforts through heritage tourism, education and historic preservation planning. Through these grant projects our country gains a greater shared knowledge about the nation's past, strengthened regional identities and local pride, increased local participation in preserving the country's cultural and natural heritage assets, and support for the economic vitality of our communities.
