Rockville Mayor Re-elected to Maryland Municipal League Board of Directors
ROCKVILLE, Md., June 29, 2011 —Rockville Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio was re-elected to serve as an at-large member of the Board of Directors for the Maryland Municipal League, a nonprofit and nonpartisan association that represents 157 municipalities and two special taxing districts in Maryland.
“I’m honored to serve again on the board,” Marcuccio said. “MML achieved many great things in the past year, and I’m looking forward to representing Rockville and continuing to shape the future of Maryland municipalities.”
The Maryland Municipal League is governed by a 31-member Board of Directors that serves as the leadership body to help in MML’s mission to strengthen and support municipal government through advocacy and development of effective leadership. Ten of those members serve in an at-large capacity.
The Maryland Municipal League was founded in 1936 and, through its membership in the National League of Cities, offers legislative representation in Washington, D.C.
The Montgomery County Chapter of the Maryland Municipal League includes 19 municipalities and two special taxing districts. The group meets with county officials, discusses issues of mutual concern and joint advocacy, and coordinates on legislative agendas.
Marcuccio, who was elected Rockville mayor in 2009, will serve on the Board of Directors through June 2012. She was elected to the position at the annual MML conference being held this week. She has served the City of Rockville since 2005 when she was elected to the City Council.
