Rockville to Host First-Ever Carl Henn Memorial Bicycle Ride July 23

ROCKVILLE, Md., July 11, 2011 — Rockville will host the first-ever Carl Henn Memorial Bike Ride to honor the life of longtime Rockville resident and civic activist Henn, who died in July 2010.

The Rockville Bike Advisory Committee will host and lead the 11-mile memorial ride, which begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave.  Riders will make stops at four community gardens. There will be free on-site registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. July 23. In the event of rain, the ride will take place Saturday, July 30.

Henn, 48, lived in Rockville for more than 20 years. He devoted his life to civic activism. He served on the City’s Environment Commission and the Rockville Bicycle Advisory Committee. He also served as president of the Hungerford Civic Association.

Henn was instrumental in the creation of three community gardens in the City of Rockville – one in the King Farm community and two in the Fallsgrove community.

In addition to the Carl Henn Memorial Bike Ride, the Rockville Bike Advisory Committee will host a series of weekly and special events throughout the summer:
