Rockville Neighborhoods Gather for Annual National Night Out

ROCKVILLE, Md., July 18, 2011 —The City of Rockville is gearing up for the 28th annual National Night Out, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. This year's event is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 2.

Neighborhoods, businesses, civic groups and law enforcement agencies spend the evening pitching in to help the fight against crime and support anti-crime programs. The annual event is also a public message against crime.

Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, many communities celebrate with a variety of events to help neighbors get to know one another and to build community spirit.

The night isn't only about fighting crime, it's also about having fun. Events include block parties, cookouts, visits from the Rockville City Police and McGruff the Crime Dog, exhibits, flashlight walks, contests and youth programs.

The Rockville Mayor and Council, along with Rockville Police Chief Terry Treschuk, Rockville City Police Department officers and the City Manager, will join several of the more than two dozen neighborhood block parties that will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 2.
