Rockville Opens Cooling Centers
Swim Center Open, Financial Assistance Available

Rockville, Md., July 20, 2011 - The City of Rockville has opened five cooling centers for residents suffering from high temperatures.

The centers are located at the following City facilities:

Residents using the cooling centers may stay in designated public areas for free. Residents who want to use the amenities (i.e. fitness rooms, computer labs or drop-in programs) may do so after paying a daily admission fee.

Cooling centers will be open during normal hours of operation. Check the City's website at www.rockvillemd.gov for information.

An adult must accompany children using the cooling centers.

The City of Rockville will open cooling centers at the above locations on days when the temperature is 95 degrees or more or when a code red air quality alert is issued for the county.

Another great way to cool off in Rockville is to visit the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center, located at 355 Martins Lane. Check the City’s web site at www.rockvillemd.gov for hours of operation and admission fees. Low income City residents may be eligible for financial assistance.
