City of Rockville, Montgomery County to Remember September 11
Memorial Remembrance Ceremony to be Held Friday, Sept. 9

ROCKVILLE, Md., August 24, 2011- The City of Rockville and Montgomery County will host a September 11 Memorial Remembrance Friday, Sept. 9, at 12:30 p.m. The community is invited to attend the ceremony in Courthouse Square Park at the corner of Route 28 and Maryland Avenue in Rockville.

The ceremony will be a time for remembrance and tribute to the victims, their families, emergency responders and members of the military. Eleven victims of the September 11 attacks were from Montgomery County.

The program includes a wreath laying, reading of the victims’ names, musical performances and addresses by Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio, County Executive Isiah Leggett and Montgomery County Council President Valerie Ervin.

“This ceremony is very worthwhile, and it is important that it’s held in the memorial park,” said Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio. “It’s a thoughtful, peaceful place that gives visitors a moment of tranquility to remember those individuals who lost their lives.”

Courthouse Square Park is a memorial park dedicated to the 11 Montgomery County victims of the September 11 attack on the Pentagon.
