Rockville Mobilizes Crews To Clean Up After Irene
ROCKVILLE, Md., Aug. 28- As Hurricane Irene moved through the area, the City of Rockville’s street, tree and road crews mobilized to clean up the community. Crews worked to clear tree debris most of the day Sunday to prepare for Monday’s commute.
Rockville received numerous calls from residents and businesses reporting tree debris that was a result of overnight high winds. Sidewalks and roads have been cleared of major debris, and stacks of brush have been left behind for refuse crews to collect over the upcoming week.
Rockville’s water treatment plant was switched to generator power overnight, but then switched back to PEPCO power at 8:30 this morning. As a result of the power back up, there were no service interruptions.
Several fallen trees blocking roads and driveways were reported. Most reported blockages on City property, including sidewalks, roads and driveways have been cleared and are expected to be open in time for Monday’s commute.
City facilities opened as scheduled today. All City facilities will be open for normal business hours on Monday, Aug. 29.
If residents, businesses or commuters would like to report tree debris that has fallen on public property or downed or hanging branches on public property, call 240-314-8566. If a tree or branch has caused electric utility wires to come down, call Pepco at 1-877-737-2662. For emergencies that threaten life or property, call 9-1-1. For non-emergency police assistance, call 240-314-8900.
