City of Rockville to Co-Host Heart Awareness Seminar for Latinas

Rockville, Md., Oct. 24, 2011 – The City of Rockville will co-host "De Corazon a Corazon, Mujeres de Rojo Unidas por la Salud" (Heart to Heart: Women in Red United for Health) Friday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. at the VisArts Center, 155 Gibbs Street.

The seminar will give Spanish-speaking women ages 18 and older important information about their risk of heart disease. This year, the program will have a silent action to support the City of Rockville Recreation fund, which offers assistance to children with limited financial resources and a fashion show with prominent Hispanic women from the community. A reception before the event starts at 6:45 pm.

The free program will be presented in Spanish and will include health information, a zumba lesson and dinner. Registration is required. To register, call 240-271-6342 or email edith-nami@yahoo.com.

The City's Neighborhood Resources Division is partnering with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Montgomery County, the National Heart Truth Campaign and Rockville Latino Alliance to present health and community information during the program. Private and community organizations have provided funding for the event.

For additional information about the event, contact Hjarman Cordero, neighborhood resources coordinator, at 240-314-8344 or hcordero@rockvillemd.gov.
