U.S. Navy Veteran to Speak at Rockville's Veterans Day Ceremony
Event Set for Friday, Nov. 11, at Veterans Park; City will Operate on a Limited Schedule

ROCKVILLE, Md., November 1, 2011—Michael L. Higgs, a U.S. Navy veteran, commander of the Local Disabled Veterans 12 and a Montgomery County teacher, will be the featured speaker as Rockville honors its veterans. A Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at Veterans Park.

Higgs served in the Navy between 1965 and 1969, and served in Vietnam as a photographer from 1968-69.

Rockville's Mayor and Council will lead a tribute to the men and women who have served in the nation's armed forces at Veterans Park, located at the intersection of Rockville Pike and Veirs Mill Road (across from St. Mary's Church). American Legion Post 86 will lead the wreath-laying ceremony and the Post's Honor Guard will lead the 21-gun salute.

Parking is available at St. Mary's Catholic Church and School or at the Sandy Spring Bank building, located between Fleet Street and Route 355.

City Hall will be closed and many City facilities also will close or operate on a limited schedule. The following is the status of Rockville facilities and programs for Friday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day:
