Open Houses,'The Nutcracker,' Gingerbread House Workshop, Concerts and More Will Take Place Throughout the city
ROCKVILLE, Md., November 29, 2011—There are a wide variety of seasonal activities scheduled in Rockville throughout the month of December, including the annual Holiday Open House series at Glenview Mansion, a performance of "The Nutcracker," holiday concerts, gingerbread house workshops, winter break activities and more.
Each December, Rockville hosts numerous events to celebrate the season. The following list outlines the events:
- Annual Holiday Bazaar – Rockville Seniors Inc. will host the annual Holiday Bazaar that features handmade crafts, a book sale, raffle, bake sale and more from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Rockville Senior Center, 1150 Carnation Drive.
- "The Nutcracker" – Rockville Civic Ballet performs Saturdays, Dec. 3 and 10, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sundays, Dec. 4 and 11, at 2 p.m. at F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, 603 Edmonston Drive. Tickets: $16, adults; $12 children (12 and younger) and senior citizens (60 and older). Group rates are available.
- Holiday Open House – Glenview Mansion hosts a Holiday Open House for three Sundays in December. Tour the decorated mansion, and enjoy art and entertainment. Mansion open 1-4 p.m. Dec. 4, 11 and 18. Free. Glenview Mansion is located at 603 Edmonston Drive.
- Family Gingerbread House Workshop – Make a gingerbread house Saturday, Dec. 10, 10 a.m.–noon at Thomas Farm Community Center, 700 Fallsgrove Drive. All materials included. Cost: $40, residents; $45, nonresidents. Registration required. Call 240-314-8840.
- Holiday Jazz Concert – The Kevin Mittleman Quartet performs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Thomas Farm Community Center, 700 Fallsgrove Drive. Visit www.rockvillemd/gov/thomasfarm for information.
- "Holiday Classics" Concert – Rockville Concert Band performs Sunday, Dec. 18, at 3 p.m. at F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, 603 Edmonston Drive. A $5 donation is suggested.
- Holiday Concert – Rockville Chorus performs Sunday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m. at F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, 603 Edmonston Drive. A $5 donation is suggested.
Rockville also offers activities for students during the winter break from school. The following list outlines activities:
- Winter Break Fun Days – Students in grades one to five will enjoy supervised, fun activities that include sports, winter crafts and more Tuesday, Dec. 27, through Friday, Dec. 30, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Thomas Farm Community Center, 700 Fallsgrove Drive. 240-314-8840. Registration required. Cost: $130, residents; $140, non-residents.
- Winter Nature Fun Days – Students ages 7-12 can spend the day at Croydon Creek Nature Center, 852 Avery Road, learning about animal tracks, hiking in the forest preserve and enjoying a campfire Friday, Dec. 30, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Dress for the weather and bring a lunch and snack. - Winter Wonderland Camp – Students in grades kindergarten through five will enjoy crafts, games, sports and more from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, through Friday, Dec. 30, at the Twinbrook Community Recreation Center, 12920 Twinbrook Parkway. Cost: $130, residents; $140, nonresidents.
- Snow Days Clubhouse – Students age 7-12 will enjoy sports, crafts, games, a field trip and more from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, through Friday, Dec. 30, at Lincoln Park Community Center, 357 Frederick Ave. Cost: $115, residents; $125, nonresidents.
