Rockville Police Charge Teen in Home Burglary

ROCKVILLE, Md., January 5, 2012—The Rockville City Police Department charged a Rockville teen in connection with a residential burglary that occurred Dec 20 in the 1800 block of Lewis Avenue.

The 16-year-old, whose name is not being released because he is not being charged as an adult, was charged with one count each of first-degree burglary and theft under $1,000. The teen was charged on Dec. 30, following the execution of a search warrant for his home in which police recovered items taken from the burglary at the Lewis Avenue address.

Rockville City Police were called at approximately 7 p.m. on Dec. 20 after a report for a burglary that had occurred at a home in the 1800 block of Lewis Avenue. The homeowner was the victim of an unrelated burglary in 2009, and had installed security cameras following that incident.

The homeowner reviewed the video, which showed a suspect enter the home at approximately 2 p.m. on Dec. 20 through an unlocked window and exit the back door. A video gaming console and assorted video games were taken from the home. The homeowner’s family members were able to identify the suspect on the security video.

Rockville City Police interviewed the 16-year-old who provided a full confession. The teen was also wanted on juvenile arrest charges for failing to appear in court for a charge of a minor in possession of alcohol.

Under the direction of the Department of Juvenile Justice, the 16-year-old was transported to a juvenile detention facility for processing of that warrant.
