Bicycling in Rockville

Millennium Trail
Wootton BridgeThe Millennium Trail is a 10-foot wide shared use path that follows a 10.6-mile loop around Rockville.  The Trail is within two miles (typical bicycling distance) of all neighborhoods in the City.

The Millennium Trail was recommended in the 1998 Rockville Bikeway Master Plan.  Design and construction of the Trail was funded by the Federal Government, the Maryland State Highway Administration, and the City of Rockville.

The Trail was officially opened in May 2006 during May is Bike Month.  The path travels along Norbeck Road, Gude Drive, and  Wootton Parkway.  In the Fallsgrove Development it meanders through the parks and open areas, with scenic views across the many ponds.  Mile markers are placed every one-half miles with the "zero" marker located near the future Thomas Farm Community Center in Fallsgrove.

The bridge is being constructed on the south side of the I-270/MD 28 interchange and will improve east-west bicycle access across the City.  When the new bridge is completed, bicyclists will be able to conveniently travel from neighborhoods such as Rockshire and Fallsgrove to other destinations in the central and east part of the City, such as Town Center.
