Bicycling in Rockville
Some residents do not have the resources to purchase a bike. Unfortunately, without a bicycle, these residents will not be able take full advantage of the City’s new bicycle paths and lanes and other bicycling-related programs offered in the City. Children without bicycles experience one of the greatest negative impacts: they are often dependent on their parents to drive them to visit parks and friends, participate in sports and access other destinations in the City.

Bicycling is also a fun way for children to be active and healthy. Encouraging children to bicycle can help them become physically active and healthy for life.
To make it easier for all residents of Rockville to have the opportunity to meet their daily needs by bicycle, the City offers free or reduced-price bicycles to residents without bicycles. The City, in partnership with Bikes For the World, currently fixes donated and unclaimed bicycles through the Bicycle Recycling Program. Annually, bicycles are awarded to children who perform community service and other civic minded responsible acts. For more information contact the Bikeways Coordinator by phone at 240-314-8626 or by e-mail at bikeways@rockvillemd.gov.
