Class Instructors

Heidi Bahr
Heidi has a degree in Fiber Arts and has worked for the Springwater Fiber Workshop, a non-profit fiber arts school and supply shop. Heidi teaches to the individual keeping pace with each person’s learning style and skill level. Most importantly she wants her students to enjoy the experience, meet people, and have fun!

Jocelyn Barwick
Jocelyn has
a third degree black belt in karate and has 10 years experience in teaching.  She wants the students to improve their concentration, focus, self-discipline and self confidence.  She would like her classes to be fun, exciting and safe and have her students continue to improve in Tang Soo Do.

Kathryn Chongpinitchai
Kathryn has taken classical ballet classes for over 20 years and had some Modern, Hip-Hop and Jazz training.  She taught dance for 4 years at Gettysburg College, and over 2 years with the City.  Kathryn uses a blend of discipline and imaginative exercises to make her classes enjoyable. She structures the class similarly each week and adds new exercises as her students progress. Kathryn is open to communication with the parents to discuss any concerns regarding their children.

Nat Cunningham
Nat has been teaching line dancing for 12 years. He trained with Arthur Murray Dance Studios for four  years  in addition to eight years with a variety of other instructors. Nat’s philosophy is patience. He ensures everybody has an equal opportunity to learn while having fun and enjoying themselves.

Sylvia England
Sylvia has had a lifelong interest in fitness. She began running races, completed a mini triathlon and competed successfully in figure competitions. She studied Ianger yoga and has taken numerous Pilates classes that help keep her injury free and increases her core strength.

Paul Jordan
Paul
has over 25 years of teaching and coaching basketball to children of all ages as well as adults.  He has played semi-pro basketball for 2 years with the D.C. Jets and coached the Boys' Varsity Teams at Quince Orchard and Gaithersburg High Schools and Girls' AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) and Montgomery County Recreation leagues.  Paul believes that his classes are intended to improve the skills and confidence of each child, regardless of their talent.  Through repetition, children strive to perfect individual skills.

Chet Levine
Chet
has taught tennis for over 5 years to all age groups and abilities.  He is a USPTR (U.S. Professional Tennis Registry) certified instructor and enjoys working with people.  He asks students about their individual goals so they may benefit best from his classes.

Amy Liss
Amy is a Nia Brown Belt instructor and is Aerobics and Fitness Association of America certified for group exercise. She has been teaching for six years. Amy’s goal is to share her love of movement with others and, through Nia, to help people heal. She firmly believes that ‘Through Movement We Find Health.’

Meghan Mattos
Meghan has a degree in psychology with a concentration in dance and dance therapy. She has 15 years of dance training and has taken courses in dance history, anatomy, kinesiology, dance notation, and choreography.  Meghan wants to teach dance history and basics of anatomy to help the students become well-versed in the art of dance. She breaks down complex movement and uses fun imagery in her teaching.

Solange Meetze
Solange has a Bachelors of Arts in dance from the University of Maryland and has been teaching dance for 27 years. Her goal is for her students to learn the joy of dancing through a variety of movement and musical styles, structured and free dance, and imagination games. Solange treats every child individually, adapting to their own unique strengths and talents.

Denis Meza
Denis
teaches Tiny Tykes Basketball and Shorty Sports and has over 3 years of teaching experience. He grew up playing a variety of sports.  He has played in numerous soccer leagues. He is very enthusiastic and patient with young children.  He always encourages students to do their best.  He teaches students to follow directions in a group setting while having fun.  He promotes the development of positive attitudes toward teammates, coaches and parents.

Jorge Giovanni Meza
Jorge
has been teaching soccer for over 5 years.  He has USSF (U.S. Soccer Federation) coaching and referee licenses and is bilingual in Spanish.  His philosophy is to teach children the basic fundamentals in soccer in a fun environment where they feel welcomed and accepted.

Paul Mola
Paul has been teaching for 30 years. He started his career competing in Latin, ballroom, and hustle competitions. After selling his two dance studios he settled in the Washington area and has taught privately and for recreation departments for over 20 years. Once you get out and try a class you will get hooked on the fun and energy in his classes.

Marianne Mullan
Marianne has 13 years of ballet training, 11 years performing ballet, 2 years as HST Dance Captain, participated in American Ballet Theater Collegiate Summer Intensive, and American Dance Institute and Ballet de Volee drop-in classes. She tries to make learning ballet fun while rewarding students' positive growth to help them gain proficiency to move on to beginning ballet classes. Marianne has grown up through the City of Rockville ballet program and is willing to work with students and parents in order to ensure a positive experience.

Mark Orrell
Mark teaches t-ball, soccer, and basketball.  He has degrees in Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology and has taught for over 5 years.  Mark’s goals are to establish a good rapport with the children while teaching the fundamentals of each sport.  He makes students feel at ease through humor and promotes team spirit so all teammates feel successful.

Joe Parish
Joe is a USPTA(U.S. Professional Tennis Association) certified instructor who has been teaching for 10 years.  He coached the Northwest High School tennis team for over 2 years and has taught private and group lessons at Lakewood Country Club and directed the tennis camp for Rockville.  He would like his students to love the game of tennis as much as he does and to continue to grow and learn in the sport.

Sabine Phillipe
Sabine has training in ballet, modern, jazz, ballroom, Latin, improvisation, and folklore. She attended Boston University, Boston Ballet, Washington Ballet, Fred Astaire Studios, American Ballet, Academie Regine Montrosier Trouillot, and Louisville Ballet. Sabine’s philosophy is to emphasize technique and then break down steps to their smaller components so it is easier for students to grasp.

Judy Smith
Judy has been studying and teaching yoga for more than ten years.  She has a background in Hatha yoga and has completed certification, workshops and/or one-on-one training with Yoga Masters Doug Swenson (Sadhana Yoga, a soft form of Ashtanga Yoga), David Swenson (Ashtanga Yoga), Ned Hartfiel (Dru Yoga) and others.  While in India, Judy attended The Bihar School of Yoga in Calcutta and also studied with private instructors.  Judy’s supportive style of teaching is both energizing and inspirational, utilizing the breath to move into and deepen asanas (poses).  This class is suitable for beginners and continuing students who will leave class feeling refreshed and nourished.

Ashley Theobald
Ashley
is a certified Jazzercise Instructor and has 11 years of teaching experience. Her Junior Jazzercise class is very popular for children ages 6-10. Children experience the joy of physical movement as they move and groove their way through specially choreographed and age-appropriate routines set to today’s most popular music. They learn coordination, strength, endurance, nutrition and the importance of physical fitness. Ashley believes that working out should be fun and not a chore. 

Terri Winkler
Terri has taught childhood music for over 8 years, and was trained as a registered Music Together teacher in 2003. She was recently awarded Music Together Certification Level I for outstanding achievement in teaching, musicianship, program philosophy, and parent education. Terri has a BA in piano performance and pedagogy and has worked as a musician and music teacher for more than twenty years. She is a member of the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association.
