Leaders in Training (LIT) Leaders in Training (LITs) work as junior camp counselors during the City of Rockville's summer camps and playground programs. LITs gain valuable experience working with children while earning SSL hours. Registration began on Wed., Jan. 25, for NEW Summer 2012 LITs. Program is full for summer 2012.
LIT Leadership Clinic (Mandatory) Attending a Leadership Clinic is the new pre-requisted for the Leader in Training program. All NEW LIT's must first sign up for a two day, two hour clinic that includes fun, interactive workshops, games and activities designed to prepare teens to volunteer in a camp or playground environment. All clinics will be held at the Lincoln Park Community Center. The maximum attendance is 24 youth. Sign up is on a first-come, first served basis. Registration began on Wed., Jan. 25, for all NEW Summer 2012 LITs. NEW LIT Applications will be mailed home after you register for a clinic. Returning LITs will automatically receive a summer 2012 Application. AGE: 12-15 (Participants must be age 13 by July 1, 2012) Mentoring: Be a friend; make a difference. Be a friend to an elementary school-aged youth in a structured setting. Mentoring occurs after school for one hour per week during the school year at elementary schools. Rockville Youth Commission The new Rockville Youth Commission offers high schoolers (grades 9-12) the opportunity to become community leaders, working with the Mayor and Council on a variety of important issues. The commission will meet once a month at City Hall and participants will serve one-year terms. For more information about program and application requirements read the Rockville Youth Commission Overview. A formal Rockville Youth Commission Application is required to participate. Update applications for the 2011-2012 school year will be available summer 2011.
