Rockville TeensThe mission of the City of Rockville’s Teen Programs Division is to enhance the quality of life of all Rockville teens (middle school grades 6-8 and high school grades 9-12) by providing premium challenging services and recreational programs (educational, cultural, civic, artistic, athletic, social and developmental) that are innovative, fun, interesting, wholesome and of high-quality in response to their needs. Teen programming is offered in safe, modern and supervised community/teen centers and environments.

Meet Our Staff

Nina Herndon, Teem Programs SupervisorNina Herndon, Teen Programs Supervisor
Nina Herndon has been the Teen Programs Supervisor since 2000. She attended Towson University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management and business. She then went on to earn a master’s in education with a concentration in recreation administration, from Temple University. Nina enjoys spending time with family and friends, and recently became a first-time mother to a son.

Nia Smith, Teen Programs Assistant
Nia Smith has worked with the City of Rockville since 2004. She is a graduate of Rockville High School and earned an associate degree from Montgomery College. She is currently attending the University of Maryland, Shady Grove, where she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in social work. Nia enjoys dancing, shopping, laughing, interacting with youth and teens and spending time with her two young sons.

Tavares Cooper, Teen Programs Director
Tavares Cooper is currently the Director of the Teen Lounge and will be Co-Directing the Teens on the Go Program again this summer. Tavares earned a bachelor’s degree in human services and child development from Pfeiffer University. Tavares recentely accepted a job to work at his alma mater, Richard Montgomery High School, as a para-educator. He is a proud father of a young son, Tavares Jr., and when not working with the City, he mentors at-risk youth. Tavares enjoys all sports and has played semi-pro basketball.

Melissa Walters, Teen Programs Leader
Melissa Walters is currently a Leader at the Teen Lounge and will also be helping to lead the Teens on the Go participants this summer. She is a graduate of Richard Montgomery High School. She is currently attending Montgomery College, where she is pursuing a degree in criminal justice. Melissa enjoys shopping, spending time with her family and friends, and being a role model to her younger sister.

Anthony Williams, Teen Programs Director/Sub Anthony currently works as need as a program sub and at special events. He works as a ParaEducator with Special Education department with MCPS and he is also a certified personal trainer who teaches many of our fitness classes and programs for youth. He likes to play basketball (he played professional basketball in Germany), work out, train/teach others how to be healthy and reach their fitness goals and spend time with his family (he is the father of one young son, Anthony Jr.). Anthony will be Co-Directing the Teens on the Go program this summer with Tavares.
