Household Hazardous Waste

Rockville will collect household hazardous waste by appointment. Call 240-314-8568 weekdays, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., to schedule an appointment and for instructions for how to set materials out for collection. In addition, self-hauling waste to the Montgomery County Transfer Station (1601 Frederick Road) is an option. 

ACCEPTED HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTENOT ACCEPTED
Liquids and Chemicals: (must be in original containers or in a clearly marked container, then placed in a box labeled “HAZMAT”). Place box in a secure area, such as the top of your driveway, to prevent spills.
 Acids/caustics (cleaning and pool chemicals) No gasoline, gas-oil mixes, flammable liquids, unwanted fuels (these items should be taken directly to the Montgomery County Transfer Station).
 Aerosol cans, with fluid (place emptied cans in recycling cart) No tire rims (see Special Collections section for disposal)
 Motor oil, antifreeze, brake fluid (no more than 4 jugs) No latex paint (solidify and place in refuse cart)
 Pesticides, poisons, insecticides
 Oil-based paint
 
Other:
 Car batteries
 Rechargeable batteries (lithium, nickel-cadmium, nickel metal hydride, small sealed lead acid, mercuric oxide, silver oxide).
 Passenger tires (no more
than 4 per collection, rims removed)
 Compact fluorescent bulbs
 Propane tanks with the valve attached (if there is no valve on the tank it can be placed in your gray refuse cart).
