Refuse: Gray Carts

Rockville provides once-per-week refuse collection. Refuse is everything that fits inside the cart that is not recycling, yard waste or hazardous waste. Place refuse in the gray cart. Use plastic trash bags to collect trash before placing inside the cart and to keep the cart clean. Keep the lid closed to avoid spilling trash or attracting animals and to minimize odors.

Accepted Refuse Items: Non-recyclable Glass and Aluminum, Non-recyclable Paper and
Cardboard, Non-recyclable Plastic, Organic Waste, Sharp Objects

 Ashes-cold (must be in a sealed plastic bag) No recyclables (See the Single-Stream Recycling section for details)
 Batteries (AA, AAA, etc.)
 Cigarette packs No yard waste (See the Yard Waste section for details)
 Crystal, dishes, plates (glass or plastic)
 Cinder blocks, bricks, broken concrete No Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (See Household Hazardous Waste section for disposal)
 Diapers (must be in a sealed plastic bag)
 Dirt, rocks, sod, soil No Bamboo (See Yard Waste section for disposal)
 Fluorescent tubes (large quantities should be collected as Household Hazardous Waste)
 Food scraps
 Glass (Pyrex, mirrors, ceramics)
 Light bulbs
 Needles, razor blades, syringes (place into a rigid, non-penetrable container, such as a plastic soda bottle)
 Old mulch
 Paint cans-latex (paint cans must be
emptied or solidified; lids off)
 Pet waste and litter (must be in a sealed plastic bag)
 Pumpkins/tree fruit
 Styrofoam
 Take-out containers (clamshell)
 Vacuum bags
 Waxed/foil-coated paper
