Dear Resident:The Rockville Department of Public Works (DPW) is designing an upgrade to the existing stormwater management facility and improving the park in Maryvale. A public meeting on the proposed improvements was held on November 30, 2004 at the Maryvale Elementary School. Since this public meeting, several design challenges have slowed the design process considerably. The biggest challenge was caused by the amount of stormwater runoff that passes through the park. As part of these improvements, storm drainpipes are to be realigned and upgraded in size. Our goal is to safely convey stormwater through the park, improve the quality of the stormwater management facility, and provide additional open space that frequently remains dry. During construction, we will strive to minimize impacts, specifically to trees.
These improvements will affect the park and create temporary impacts as well as change the park’s appearance. The design is still in process and we want your input. A meeting will be scheduled for a Saturday this March 2007 – the meeting will be held on the project site. You will be receiving a postcard inviting you to this meeting in the coming weeks. On the back of this letter, we have provided a map showing the conceptual footprint of the park improvements. Our goal is to start construction in Fall 2007.
