Corrugated Metal Pipe Storm Drain Inspections to be Conducted Mid February to End of April
Department of Public Works contracted with KCI Technologies, Inc. to inspect portions of the City’s storm drain system. They will be inspecting about 4900 linear feet of corrugated metal pipe storm drain in fourteen different locations throughout the City. The goal of these inspections is to identify any pipes that may need repairs. Corrugated metal pipes, particularly those installed prior to 1970, tend to corrode and deteriorate faster than concrete pipe.
Two to three individuals with safety equipment, flashlights, cameras and possibly hand tools will complete the inspections. Most of the inspections will be in the City’s right of way (streets and sidewalks). In some cases, the storm drain may be located on private property in a City easement. The inspectors will notify the property owners before they enter onto private property. Inspections should generally be completed in one to three days for each location. There will be no street or sidewalk closures. If you have any questions please call John Scabis, P.E., Civil Engineer II, at 240-314-8514.
