Neighborhood Advisory

Construction Activity TRANSCO Gas Pipeline

In December 2005, the City of Rockville sent out Neighborhood Advisories to inform residents about construction crews from Williams Gas Pipeline/TRANSCO (WGPT) excavating gas pipes to conduct visual inspections.  There were approximately 12 test pits to be excavated.  Due to inclement weather, only nine (9) test pits were completed and three (3) excavations remain.  Please see the map below showing the remaining test pit locations.

In early 2005, WGPT inserted a computerized device into its gas pipelines called a "smart pig" that traversed through the pipe determining wall thickness and conducting general internal inspection of the pipe.  This internal investigation found a few anomalies in the pipe.  WGPT must now excavate these areas and make a visual inspection.

Work is scheduled to begin in early April (weather permitting) and will continue for approximately three (3) weeks.  The digging of test pits will take place on both private and public property within WGPT easements.  Upon completion of the work, WGPT will restore property to its original condition.

A second advisory will be mailed at least two (2) weeks before construction is to begin.  This work is NOT considered an emergency repair.  The WGPT work is routine periodic inspection and maintenance.  If you have questions about the excavation, please contact one of the following individuals:
