Rockville citizens are invited to a workshop to 1) review and comment on a series of traffic calming measures proposed by community volunteers who live in areas within or near Town Center; and 2) to provide additional ideas on ways to keep the Town Center accessible while protecting adjacent communities from excessive traffic. The workshop is open to any Rockville citizen and will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2005, from 7-9 p.m. at Richard Montgomery High School. City staff will also provide data on existing and projected traffic on Rockville streets. Since June 2004, community volunteers participated in steering committees representing areas on the map below. The committees discussed current traffic problems, projected future problems and identified potential solutions in conjunction with staff from the City’s Traffic and Transportation and Neighborhood Resources Divisions. The workshop on May 24 will be the first time that the potential solutions drafted by the different steering committees are reviewed together. Citizens can help identify how the proposed solutions may affect the flow of traffic throughout the entire area. Following the May 24 workshop, City staff will develop a list of proposed traffic calming measures and other solutions which will then be reviewed and prioritized in coordination with the Traffic and Transportation Commission, a citizen advisory group to the Mayor and Council.
