Neighborhood Advisory

TRANSCO Gas Pipeline Construction
to Begin Week of August 7, 2006

Williams Gas Pipeline/TRANSCO (WGPT) was scheduled to begin its next series of preventative maintenance in May 2006 within the City of Rockville.  Due to the inclement weather, construction was delayed and work is planned to begin on pipelines in or near your neighborhood starting the week of August 7, 2006 (weather permitting).  Construction is expected to last two weeks.

The purpose of this construction activity is to install an “Anode-flex” in the ground along the existing pipeline.  Anode-flex is essentially a cable wrapped in a sheath that provides electrical protection of buried pipelines against corrosion.  The Anode-flex is flexible, continuous and carbon based.  It will primarily be installed using directional drilling, which allows the installation process to occur without disturbance to WGPT’s right-of-way.  However, in the event that directional drilling is not feasible, the Anode-flex must be installed by excavating the pipeline.  The amount of excavation will not be known until WGPT’s crews are on-site.

Please see the map on the reverse side of this advisory for the pipe locations.  The WGPT work is routine and considered preventative maintenance.  If you have questions about the excavation, please contact one of the following individuals:
