PROJECT UPDATE: NORTH HORNERS LANE WATER MAIN IMPROVEMENTS

IMPROVING YOUR WATER SYSTEM
As part to our ongoing maintenance program, we must periodically replace sections of our water system, which assures you  – our customer – continued dependable water service.  This work results in more efficient operation of our system.  As a customer, your benefit is the assurance that water pressure in your home or business, as well as essential fire protection, will be maintained at all times.

HOW WILL THIS WORK AFFECT YOU?
To accomplish this work, a contractor will come into your area, excavate openings in the street for access to pipes, and lay temporary pipes on the surface, either in the curb line or behind the sidewalk.  The water meters for the properties that front on North Horners Lane will be disconnected and the service pipe reconnected to the temporary pipe.  These properties may experience a momentary disruption in your service while this connection is made.  A City Inspector will be assigned to monitor the contractor's work and will be in the area on a regular basis.  (We expect to carry out work from September to November 2004.)

PLEASE . . . WATCH YOUR STEP
If you live, travel, or shop in the area, you will notice a number of openings in the street to allow access to the water main and to accommodate the by-pass pipelines running across the intersection and driveways.  All openings will be covered during the work and will be resurfaced as soon as possible after the project is finished.  Every possible safety precaution will be taken and all work area will be barricaded and carefully marked to prevent injury.  You can help by cautioning family and friends to watch their step and avoid the work areas as much as possible.

INCONVENIENCE TEMPORARY. . . IMPROVEMENTS PERMANENT
We realize our project may cause some inconveniences for those who live and work in the area.  We will coordinate with all City departments to minimize traffic disruptions, and we will do our best to see that the construction goes smoothly.

IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION OR PROBLEM . . .
Before the work begins, you may contact John Hollida, Civil Engineer II, at 240-314-8513 or by e-mail at jhollida@rockvillemd.gov.  During the work, if you have any questions, you may either contact the on-site Engineering Technician IV (Inspector) Greg Middleton at 240-314-8547 or by e-mail at gmiddleton@rockvillemd.gov or Mike Wilhelm, Chief, Contract Management, at 240-314-8542 or by e-mail at mwilhelm@rockvillemd.gov
