As part of the City’s development review process for the Chestnut Lodge development, roadway and sidewalk improvements have been identified on Thomas Street. The improvements include sidewalk upgrades, driveway aprons and curb and gutter. These improvements will provide a sidewalk on at least one side of the street along the entire length and will address some of the drainage issues on the street. An effort was made to save as many of the historic mature trees on the Chestnut Lodge site as possible. Since this work will affect the street you live on, City staff will be holding a meeting on Thomas Street to discuss the proposed upgrades on Thursday evening, September 8th at 6pm. We will meet in front of Frieda’s Cottage (the white house mid-block on the Chestnut Lodge side of Thomas Street). Representatives of the developer will be present and will have plans available to review.
The Chestnut Lodge development is scheduled to be heard by the Planning Commission on Wednesday evening, September 14th. The improvements to Thomas Street are proposed as conditions of approval for the project. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the project with us, please contact Craig Daly at the Department of Public Works (240-314-8500, cdaly@rockvillemd.gov).
