City staff is coordinating a meeting with residents who live on Argyle St. between Maryland Ave. and Monroe St. to discuss a sidewalk on one side of the street.
The City of Rockville has received requests from residents throughout the West End neighborhood to construct sidewalks where they are missing. This request supports the Mayor and Council’s goal to improve pedestrian safety and implement sidewalks on at least one side of the street. This project also supports the City’s goal to improve access and create a safer route for students walking to Beall Elementary School.
Funds to implement the sidewalk have been secured through the City’s Capital Improvements Program budget. City staff has visited the site and documented existing conditions. As a next step, staff is ready to begin design of the sidewalk in coordination with residents along this street.
The meeting on September 14th will provide a forum for residents and staff to discuss options and concerns about implementing the sidewalk. Some of the issues to discuss include the alignment of the sidewalk, whether or not to preserve certain trees along the street, and the placement of the sidewalk in relation to residential yards.
Please note that the City plans to stake out existing City rights-of-way prior to this meeting with small orange flags. These flags will be removed following the September 14th meeting.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss this project prior to the September 14th meeting, contact Katherine Kelly, Transportation Planner, at: 240-314-8527 or kkelly@rockvillemd.gov.
