Construction Update
Adclare Road Water Main Upgrade

WATER MAIN CONSTRUCTION:
The City of Rockville contractor, Callahan Pipeline, Inc., has started water main upgrades in your community.  The improvements will improve domestic water service and fire flows.  Temporary bypass lines were installed next to the roadway allowing the old main to be removed and replaced while maintaining water service to residents.  Due to delays in delivery of materials and contractor crew availability, the construction started later than anticipated and will not be completed this calendar year.  The by-pass lines on the street must be shut down on or about November 15 due to overnight freezing temperatures.  As your service is switched from the by-pass operation, there will be temporary disruption to your water service that will likely last about 30 minutes.  Construction will start again in late March or early April 2007 once overnight temperatures consistently remain above freezing.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

WATER METER UPGRADES:
Originally, the City’s Department of Public Works (DPW) had planned to upgrade 37 residential meters to 1-inch.  After reviewing the scope of the project, DPW has decided not to proceed with the water meter upgrade.  The City has a separate water meter replacement project (CIP) that will include the replacement of the 37 meters on Adclare and Roxboro Roads.  Over the next four (4) years, the City will be replacing 11,000 residential meters and 900 commercial meters.  The purpose of this City-wide upgrade is to replace old meter equipment and implement “radio-read” meters.  The “radio-read” technology allows meter readers to obtain data without accessing or opening the meter lids in your yard.  Your meter will be replaced with the same size as your existing meter via the above mentioned CIP project.  Upgrading water meters to the same size is consistent with the CIP project scope and City policy.
