Survey Schedule and Activities In preparation for a planned sidewalk project along the north side of Beall Avenue, Maddox Surveyors, Inc. have been hired by the City of Rockville’s Department of Public Works to complete a field survey of existing conditions adjacent to Beall Avenue. The majority of the survey work will occur on Beall Avenue. However, some surveying will be necessary on Mannakee Street, Carr Avenue, and Lynch Street to gather storm water drainage information. Here is a map of the properties adjacent to the survey. Information will be collected on trees, sidewalks, curbs, fire hydrants, water valves, and roadways, which may include marking the facilities temporarily. The majority of the surveying will be within Rockville’s right-of-way, however, some surveying will occur in front yards in order to locate fences, trees, and landscaping. Work will not block streets, driveways, or sidewalks. The survey will start on or about Monday, January 8, 2008, and will take approximately one month to complete, weather permitting. Survey Purpose The City of Rockville has received requests from residents throughout the West End neighborhood to construct sidewalks where they are missing. These requests support the City’s goal to enhance pedestrian accessibility and to create safer routes for students walking to Beall Elementary School. The purpose of the Beall Avenue survey is for the Department of Public Works to gather information that will be helpful to residents during upcoming “Walk the Block” meetings that the City will hold with Beall Avenue residents to discuss design options for the sidewalk. The “Walk the Block” meetings will be held in Spring/Summer 2007 for each of the three sections of the sidewalk project on the north side of Beall Avenue. These three sections include: 1) North Van Buren Street to Luckett Street; 2) Laird Street to Mannakee Street; and 3) Mannakee Street to Owens Street.
