Hakes Contracting, Inc., a City contractor, will be making repairs and improvements to the City’s public stormwater management (SWM) pond on Carnation Drive. The pond will be accessed from the north side of Carnation Drive. Work includes repairs to the pond’s existing gabion (wire baskets filled with stone) wall, raising of the gabion wall, construction of a small pool in front of the gabion wall, and installation of a concrete paver maintenance access path. Approximately 0.18 acres of trees and shrubs must be cleared from the pond area to obtain access and make the improvements.
Additionally, the City’s contractor also will remove about 2,600 square feet of Japanese Knotweed, an invasive shrub, adjacent to the Carnation Drive sidewalk near the pond and replace it with native shrubs. No work will occur in the stream valley south of Carnation Drive. Construction impacts will include a temporary stream crossing, tree removal, construction equipment in and around the stream, noise, and temporary stockpiles of materials.
Construction work is scheduled to begin in late January or early February 2008 and will continue for approximately 4-5 weeks. Upon completion of the work, the contractor will stabilize the area with plantings and wood chip mulch. Landscaping will be done between late March and early May 2008.
A similar pond improvement project will be constructed at the City’s I-270 Industrial Park pond upstream of Gude Drive in January 2008 immediately preceding this Carnation Drive pond project. If you have questions about any of these projects, please contact one of the following:
