Night Time Maintenance Scheduled
for Town Center/Downtown

The City of Rockville has recently experienced a series of sewer backups in the downtown area.  These backups have resulted in the discharge of sewage from manholes in or near City streets.  These backups are frequently related to improper disposal of cooking oil and grease into residential and commercial sinks and drains.

To correct this situation, the City intends to perform preventive maintenance by flushing the sewers.  Since the problem areas are located in the Town Center/Downtown, the maintenance work will be performed after hours (10 p.m. to 6 a.m.) to avoid congestion and traffic delays.  This work is scheduled for Tuesdays and Wednesdays in early to mid-September (specifically, September 2, 3, 9, and 10).  If needed because of weather or other unanticipated delays, the maintenance also may be performed on September 16 and 17.

This work will result in the use of lights and vehicular noise.  However, the work will be temporary at any given location and will move on once the maintenance is completed at each site.

We apologize for any inconvenience this work causes you.  If you have any comments or questions concerning this important effort, please contact Brian Plymale, Operations Maintenance Assistant Superintendent, between 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at (240) 314-8574.
