Tuesday, October 14, 7 p.m. Rockville Senior Center (Card Room) and Community Stream Walk (Meet at Park Shelter/Pavilion) Saturday, November 1, 10 a.m. |
Purpose
The City encourages your input into the design of the Woodley Gardens Park stream restoration project. On October 14, the City and its consultant, URS Corporation, will explain the purpose, goals, overview, scope, impacts, and schedule of the project. There will be a discussion and a question and answer session following the presentation, so residents can give input that will be incorporated into the initial design phase. The stream walk on November 1 will be an informal session to provide a better visual and/or hands-on approach to explain the project, share information and receive further community input. A separate reminder will be sent approximately two weeks in advance of the stream walk. This is the first of several meetings and stream walks that will be held throughout the design phase.
Project
The Woodley Gardens Park stream restoration project goals are to enhance the watershed through stream restoration, wetland enhancement, reforestation, and protection of adjacent utilities. A map of the project limits is included for your reference. This project was recommended in the 2001 Watts Branch Watershed Study as a crucial component to the long-term health of the watershed. This study was recommended by the Watts Branch Partnership and approved by the Mayor and Council.
The design will take approximately a year and a half and is scheduled for completion in February 2010. Construction is anticipated to begin June 2010 and will take approximately one year to complete. If you have any questions, contact any of the following City staff:
