Survey Notice: Proposed Sidewalk Gruenther Avenue |
Sidewalk Construction
To enhance pedestrian accessibility, safety and mobility, the City of Rockville plans to construct a sidewalk on Gruenther Avenue between Linthicum Street and Broadwood Drive. The City will conduct a field survey on April 26 to assist in the preparation of a concept design. You will be contacted this summer by mail to review and comment on the proposed sidewalk design. See a map showing the proposed sidewalk.
A survey crew will be in your neighborhood during the week of April 26 to collect field data. This project includes installation of a five-foot sidewalk with a variable-width grass buffer on the north side of Gruenther Avenue between Linthicum Street and Broadwood Drive, and a similar design on the south side of Gruenther Avenue between Linthicum Street and Marshall Avenue. Additionally, the project include sidewalk construction on Pumphrey Avenue and Willoughby Avenue to connect to existing sidewalks. This sidewalk will be constructed with grant money through the Maryland State Highway Administration’s Safe Routes to School program.
All aspects of this project will be constructed to the most recent Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility standards. Some driveway aprons may be reconstructed at the City’s expense to meet these accessibility requirements. Any trees removed during the course of this work will be replaced per the City’s Street Tree Master Plan. The next notice you receive from the City will be an invitation to review and comment on the proposed sidewalk design. The City will not proceed to the final design and construction of this project without soliciting citizen input.
Project History
This project was requested by members of the community to improve pedestrian safety throughout the community. The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) reviewed this project and determined that its completion would directly improve safety of children walking to Meadow Hall Elementary School and Rockville High School. As a result, SHA awarded grant funding to this project in fall 2009.
