Sidewalk Construction
To enhance pedestrian accessibility, safety and mobility, the City of Rockville plans to construct a new concrete sidewalk on the west side of Lewis Avenue between Thornden Road and the existing sidewalk in front of 2211 Lewis Avenue. The City will conduct a field survey during the week of May 10 to assist in the preparation of a concept design. You will be contacted this summer by mail to review and comment on the proposed design. View a map showing the proposed sidewalk.
A survey crew will be in your neighborhood during the week of May 10 to collect field data. This project includes installation of a five-foot sidewalk with a variable width grass buffer on the west side of Lewis Avenue, between the limits described above. All aspects of this project will be constructed to the most recent Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility standards. Some driveway aprons may be reconstructed at the City’s expense to meet these accessibility requirements. Any trees removed during this project will be replaced as per the City’s Street Tree Master Plan. The next notice you receive from the City will be an invitation to review and comment on the proposed sidewalk design. The City will not proceed to the final design and construction of this project without soliciting citizen input.
Project History
This project was initiated following resident requests to complete the City sidewalk network. This project is funded by the Sidewalk Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and is consistent with the Mayor and Council initiative to improve pedestrian safety throughout the community.
