| Red Light Cameras | The Rockville Police Department is responsible for the enforcement of violations detected at the 9 red light cameras operated by the City of Rockville. Violations detected by these systems are reviewed by a civilian technician, employed by the police department and specifically trained in this enforcement program. Violators are be fined $75, but points are not be assigned to the vehicle owner’s driving record (similar to a parking ticket) and insurance companies can not consider these tickets in calculating insurance rates. Failure to pay fines will result in the inability to renew vehicle registration with the Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles. The vehicle owner may simply pay the fine, or request a trial in District Court to contest the violation. |
| Community Enhancement and Code Enforcement | The Community Enhancement/Code Enforcement Unit ensures the health and safety of occupants in residential and commercial/business properties by enforcing the City’s Property Maintenance (PM) Code. This unit is responsible for enforcing the Zoning Ordinance as it pertains to residential properties, the Landlord/Tenant (L/T) Ordinance, and the City’s single and multi-family rental licensing laws. The unit also issues licenses for the following business activities: Hawker/Solicitor permits, Oversized Vehicle permits, and Hotel licensing. |
| Neighborhood Services | The Neighborhood Services Division is comprised of three Neighborhood Services Officers and secretarial staff. Their primary function is animal control - licensing of dogs, picking up deceased animals, handling complaints involving animals, handling animal bite complaints and enforcement of the animal control laws. They also assist police officers with the enforcement of parking violations and abandoned automobiles. |
Tactical Patrol Unit 
| This unit is charged with investigating targeted street crimes throughout Rockville. The goals of the Tactical Patrol Unit are: - To eliminate open air Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) selling.
- To reduce the incident of CDS possession and distribution.
- To prevent gang activity from forming in the community.
- To provide a problem solving resource for the community.
- To prevent serious crime from taking a foothold in the community

| Traffic Unit | The Traffic Unit is an assignment of uniformed police officers to address specific neighborhood concerns and complaints. The primary concerns addressed by this unit are traffic-related issues. The Traffic Unit utilizes many strategies to address neighborhood complaints. These include, but are not limited to: - Radar / laser enforcement.
- Officer Tuttle decoy program.
- Speed indicator.
- Marked patrol.
- Motorcycle patrol.

| Parking Enforcement | The parking enforcement personnel assigned to the Traffic Unit are responsible for enforcement of parking regulations throughout the City with a special emphasis on the Town Center area. They are responsible for maintaining and enforcing the parking meters installed throughout the city. The parking meter system is designed to assist in ensuring a consistent level of turnover of vehicles visiting local business establishments while parking in a convenient location. |
| Criminal Investigations | The investigations unit is assigned to investigate any district level cases initiated by Rockville City Police Officers. These cases consist of robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, thefts, assaults, sex offenses (other than rape) and missing persons. |
| School Liaison | The School Liaison program assigns officers as points of contact for all primary and secondary schools in Rockville. Officers assigned to this program concentrate their efforts in the following areas: - Act as a resource with respect to delinquency prevention.
- Provide guidance on law enforcement issues to both students and staff in an academic setting.
- Be a readily available resource to students.
- Help to explain the role of law enforcement in society.
