Give usable building and construction materials new life through Montgomery County’s “Don’t Dump—Donate!” (DDD) program. DDD is a cooperative effort with The Loading Dock, a non-profit organization that gathers all types of usable building supplies and makes them available at very low prices to non-profit organizations and low-income families statewide. For more information, call The Loading Dock at 410-728-DOCK during business hours, Tuesday through Saturday.
Participating in DDD avoids all tip fees and landfilling costs; helps to provide decent, affordable, low-income housing throughout Montgomery County and Maryland; and saves landfill space. Plus, all donations are tax deductible. DDD operates at the Montgomery County Transfer Station every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. and every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. DDD is closed on government holidays. | | Enter the Transfer Station from the Shady Grove Road entrance only | • Appliances (with the exception of gas stoves) | • Lumber or other items with nails | Ask yourself “Would I give these items to a friend?” If not, chances are good that your items are unacceptable | • Bi-folding doors without tracks | • Bricks and cinder blocks with mortar | | Remember that donated items are to be reused. Therefore, the Division of Solid Waste Services reserves the right to refuse any materials deemed unfit for reuse | • Lumber less than 6 feet long (exception: molding or specialty wood may be shorter) | • Paints, caulks, adhesives, and other liquids in open cans | | • Cast iron tubs and sinks | • Old screens | | • Damaged materials | • Sliding glass doors | | • Doors 36 inches wide or greater | • Single-pane windows | | • Painted windows | • Homemade items |

The County’s MattressCycle program no longer exists. - The Salvation Army will accept mattresses, but ONLY as a set with a box spring. They will not take mattresses by themselves.
- The mattresses must not be ripped, stained, or torn. They have to be in very good, reusable condition.
- The number to call for donations remains the same: 301-277-7878. BUT – they have temporarily needed to reduce their pickup service area due to staffing shortages. When they get back up to a fuller staffing complement, they’ll be able to service a larger area again. The call takers will be happy to let you know whether their truck can come to you. If not, they will refer you as needed.
- The Saturday drop-off donation points (Little Falls Mall, Bethesda; Germantown Commons Plaza; Cabin John Mall) have been permanently discontinued as of June 5, 2004. The reason is that people were dropping items off outside of the program hours.
- People are welcome to bring donations directly to any Salvation Army store, except for the one on Viers Mill Road in Wheaton. It is important to call the store before going, to speak to the store manager about the best time to come to make the donation.
The HOC pickup program was discontinued, and there is no County replacement for it. There are some local charities which may be able to pick up items. The City’s refuse regulations describe a means of disposing of any of the above items through the regular Rockville refuse disposal or recycling program. Call us at 240-314-8568 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, for directions on how to prepare and place these items for collection. There may be a charge for disposing of some waste. |
